SPC Brown was assigned as a Team Leader when he was a Specialist proving that he had the qualified skills and leadership ability necessary to function as an NCO. His dedication to self improvement set an example for his fellow Soldiers to follow and led to himself and two other Soldiers of the platoon attending a promotion board and receiving promotions. SPC Brown dedicated over 400 hours of his off-duty time to further his education and maxed out his correspondence course hours and completed 32 hours of civilian education. ![]() His strict adherence to safety standards resulted in zero accidents. He had zero incidents over 12 months operating a government vehicle with over 15,000 miles accrued. His dedication to safety was outstanding while assigned to the 529th Military Police Company. SPC Brown's situational awareness and attention to detail were critical to the platoon's success and overall accomplishment. He conducted over 2,300 hours of garrison policing patrols ensuring the safety and security of over 15,000 Soldiers, family members, and DA civilians in the USAG- Italy, Ederle military community. SPC Brown's dedication to duty and consistent professionalism were clearly demonstrated while assigned to the 529th Military Police Company. His professional interface with members of the Department of Defense Police, civilian authorities, sister services, supporting units and their staff was critical in detecting, deterring and defeating any threat to NYC Ground Zero and its tenant units. He exceeded course standards with a 98% average during the 31B40 Military Police Senior Leader Course. SGT Maine's professional acumen and ability to communicate effectively across widely varying military and civilian communities helped ensure air-tight security and general order throughout the 20 acre confines of Ground Zero. ![]() He distinguished himself as a highly respected and effective leader of the Security Forces through his keen understanding of various Law Enforcement systems, programs and policies. SGT Maine consistently performed his demanding duties in an extremely professional manner. Sergeant Ellis' extraordinary efforts and accomplishments during this period reflect credit upon himself, the 655th Regional Support Group and the United States Army. His interaction with members of the Department of Defense Police, civilian authorities, Sister Services, supporting units, and their staff was critical in detecting, deterring and defeating any threat to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. His professional acumen and ability to communicate effectively across widely varying military and civilian communities helped ensure air tight security and general order throughout the 45,000 acre Joint Base with over 42,000 Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine and Coast Guard members and their families. He distinguished himself as a highly respected and effective leader of the Joint Base Security Forces Squadron through his keen understanding of a variety of Law Enforcement systems, programs, and policies. During this period, Sergeant Ellis consistently performed his demanding duties in an extremely professional manner. Meritorious service as Senior Law Enforcement Patrolman, 87th Security Forces Squadron, 87th Air Base Wing, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey from XXXXXXXX to XXXXXXXX. SERGEANT SMITH'S ACTIONS ARE IN KEEPING WITH THE FINEST TRADITIONS OF MILITARY HEROISM AND REFLECT DISTINCT CREDIT UPON HIMSELF, THE WASHINGTON ARMY NATIONAL GUARD AND THE UNITED STATES ARMY. SERGEANT SMITH'S HEROIC ACTIONS SAVED THE LIVES OF THE PROTECTEES HE WAS CHARGED WITH PROTECTING, CIVILIAN LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS AND THE RIOTERS HE DISARMED. HE IMMEDIATELY USED VERBAL COMMANDS TO CLEAR THE STREET WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY MOVING ON AND DISARMING THE SUBJECT, PREVENTING HIM FROM CAUSING HARM. WITH A SLUNG RIFLE AND SIDEARM DRAWN, HE FOCUSED HIS ATTENTION ON A SECOND RIOTER REMOVING A SECOND STOLEN RIFLE. AS THE FIRST RIOTER OPENED FIRE AND THE MASSES FLED, SERGEANT SMITH CHARGED TOWARDS THE GUNFIRE WITH NO REGARD FOR HIS OWN SAFETY TO CLOSE WITH, INTERCEPT AND DISARM THE SUBJECT. HE POSITIVELY IDENTIFIED THE INITIAL THREAT AND INSTANTLY ESCORTED HIS PROTECTEES TO SAFETY, SECURING THEM AROUND A CORNER BEHIND HARD COVER. AS CHAOS UNFOLDED IN DOWNTOWN SEATTLE ON MAY 30, 2020, SERGEANT SMITH, ON TEMPORARY DUTY AS A PROTECTION AGENT FOR FOX NEWS, DISARMED TWO VIOLENT RIOTERS WIELDING SEMI-AUTOMATIC RIFLES STOLEN FROM DESTROYED POLICE CRUISERS. EXCEPTIONALLY VALOROUS CONDUCT WHILE SERVING AS A PROTECTIVE ESCORT FOR NEWS CREW MEMBERS COVERING THE SEATTLE RIOTS.
